This lovely story is a
celebration of colors, all combinations of brown. With her mom, an artist, the narrator
walks around her neighborhood pointing out all the different shades of brown that her
friends and family possess. Shes amazed a how many she finds and cant wait to
get home to put all her new ideas onto paper in paint.
Definitely recommended, especially
before painting activities.
Reviews & Testimonials
From School Library Journal-
Len's mother is an artist, so she knows whereof she speaks when she insists that
there are many different shades of brown. The two take a walk through their neighborhood
by way of illustration, and the friends and relatives they meet along the way aptly
reinforce Mom's contention. Their skin colors are compared to honey, peanut butter, pizza
crust, ginger, peaches, chocolate, and more, conjuring up delicious and beautiful
comparisons for every tint. Kate's pencil-and-gouache pictures joyously convey the range
of human pigmentation. Positive and useful.
From Kirkus Reviews-
Bold illustrations celebrate diversity with a childs open-hearted sensibility
and a mothers love.
